I would give it a 10 star rating!!!Aug 16, 2009 I'm not sure when I got my first one but it was at a conference in Houston... OMG!!! It's great!!! I Have bought prior amplified stethoscopes from starkey and such... this stethoscope is so far superior that I bought 2 more the next time I went to the conference - one for a back up and one as a gift... and then the following year bought another two... And I will probably do it again next year... Infact, one of the highlights for the conference is to buy another one or two... I do not usually go by a booth at a conference and just to give personal recomendations for a product... but when you have an item that has such a big impact on my practice... I have to say I can't be without it!...the fact that it uses regular batteries and has a shut off to save the batteries ( the shut off can be made to last longer if needed) I did have a ear part break at the base on the first one that I owned (they have fixed this problem from what I can see on later scopes that I own) but I called and sent it in and it was sent back with reasonable time repaired... but I was also prepared with a back up... It'a a great teaching stethoscope as well!!! It has an adaptor that they can plug into... OMG!!! I can not rave any more about thist product ... I've been meaning to do this for some time... If you know any medical personal with a hearing loss or just if you want to make sure you hear what you are supposed to hear - then you really must get this for them or yourself!!! :o)

Not durableAug 13, 2009 I picked this up at a conference in 2006. The first week was great and I heard everything. After just one week, the earpiece caught on my collar and broke, requiring a return to the company for repair. After that, use and abuse tooks its toll. 3 monthes later, I joked with the nurses that it was like auscultating through a McDonald's drive-thru window.
Stay low tech.

A Piece of Junk!Jul 29, 2009 While this item did work well while it lasted, it is poorly constructed and of cheap material. the ear pieces virtually disintegrated in under 6 months, making it virtually useless and I was holding some of it together with duct tape prior to that. My queries for replacement parts, etc. to the manufacturer's met with zero responses.

Best of the electronic stethoscopesApr 10, 2009 I am a cardiologist and have acquired a good number of stethoscopes, including electronic models, over the years. I recently purchased a Thinklabs ds32a and found it to be the best one I've used yet. My only regret is that I didn't see it at the ACC meeting before i bought a Littmann 3100 (which was a disappointment when I used it on real patients).
Compared to the Littmann, the overall sounds is much cleaner and clearer. The higher frequencies are not rolled off and I can hear grade 1 systolic murmurs at the "acoustic" setting (non amplified level) that are barely audible at high amplification on the Littmann. Mechanical artificial valve closing is heard as a true click rather than a clunk. High pitched bruits and aortic regurgitation murmurs are much clearer.
The low frequencies are also clean, detailed and extended - unlike the resonant, smeared, "boom box" sound of the Littmann. S3 and S4 are easy to distinguish from split S2 and S1 by their natural pitch.
Another advantage is its adjustability to get optimal performance. Ambient noise reduction can be turned off when in a quiet environment, improving the sound. The Littmanns (and others) don't have this option and noise reduction will always degrade the primary sound to some degree. Loudness can be quickly changed on the fly simply by changing the manual pressure on the scope head, bringing out subtle sounds.
The only minor downside is that there is a small learning curve for the more complex control of the sound and the need to use 2 hands. However, after a couple of days it became completely natural. I recommend this stethoscope most highly.

ds32a Thinklabs Rhythm digital Electronic StethescopeMar 14, 2009 Thinklabs ds32a Digital Stethoscope
I am hearing impaired and have been searching for a stethescope that I could wear with a headset over my BTE aids. The quality of the sound from this scope is outstanding. The control buttons are easy to operate and allow for quite a bit of flexibility in adjusting the level of sound. Works great with a Bose headset.
